• Does your dog like to chew things?

As you are reading this article then I am probably correct in assuming that your dog is driving you crazy by chewing on things, am I right? Unfortunately some dogs do love to chew, and the problem is often made worse if they get bored, for instance while they are alone in your house during the day, which means you are never quite sure what to expect when you get from work etc…

One of the most popular targets for a dog to chew on is their bed, they are usually easy to get teeth into and also that is probably where your dog will be if it gets bored during the day, so they start chewing and before long the bed is in pieces. You can actually find chew resistant dog beds which make it a lot harder for your dog to chew on them, or are a lot tougher so they can withstand chewing, but the problem is they will just move onto something else then.

The only real solution is to either train them out of the habit yourself, or take them to have professional training. You can get all sorts of books and courses now if you want to train your dog yourself, Amazon.com has a wide selection, but you have to be willing to tell your dog off if they misbehave or you won’t be able to train them properly, and a lot of owners are reluctant to do that. That is why lessons are probably the best option, you will still be doing the training as it is you the dog must learn to listen to, but you will be having lessons with the trainer and other dog owners (and dogs). That way the trainer can teach you what you need to do and you can practice it in front of them to make sure you are doing it right.
