    With the superiority of knife sharpeners sharpeners on the market making things less complicated for you, it makes sense that you might think that sharpening knives by hand is a relic of a bygone age. But when you think of the fact that you may infrequently be in specific areas and situations – such as a camping of fishing trip – that do not lend themselves well to lugging an electric knife sharpener around, you will notice that the old-fashioned way of manually sharpening knives is still an ability that you must learn.

    So many times, it just is not possible to take your battery powered, electric knife sharpener with you. There is no way you’ll be able to bring your electric knife sharpener on a camping trip in the outback. In a similar fashion, if you’re out on a boat in deep water and need an incredibly sharp knife, it’s not a sensible idea bring one. In such cases, you will have to sharpen the knife yourself, with your own tools. So, if you’re out in the woods and you need your edge to be pointed, whip out a sharpening stone and get busy. It may be primitive, but using this traditional method of knife sharpening remains the best way to get your blade incredibly sharp.

    Knife sharpening is not like performing something as complicated as neurosurgery. It simply isn’t terribly hard to perform. And while it is simple, it takes proper instruction to perform correctly . But once you learn, it is like riding a bike and you’ll never have to rely on electric sharpeners again. And since you don’t need to depend on having access to electricity, you can perform this skill anywhere you are.
